6 Ways To Make A Difference During Domestic Violence Awareness Month
In recognition of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC will host and participate in a number of events to raise domestic abuse awareness and provide New Jersey victims with free legal resources. Would you like to participate? Here is a rundown of our awareness month activities and what you can do to make a difference.
Join our Twitter Chat on Tuesday, October 18 at 2:30 PM EST: As part of Domestic Violence National Week of Action, we’re spreading the word that domestic abuse doesn’t discriminate. Whether you are a woman or a man, straight or gay, rich or poor, white or black, domestic violence is a societal scourge that truly knows no boundaries. Attend our Twitter Chat to talk about how we help different groups of domestic abuse victims access resources that best fit their needs. We’ll be chatting from 2:30-3:30 pm EST! Join us on Twitter by using the hashtag #EndDVinNJ and following @weinbergerlaw.
Go Purple Thursday: On Thursday, October 20, we’re doing our part to turn New Jersey PURPLE, the official awareness color of domestic abuse. We’ll be wearing purple at all our offices and turning our social media channels purple for the day. Join us by uploading your photos to Facebook and other social media and using the hashtag #PurpleThursday. Tag Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC and we will share what you’re doing to honor domestic abuse victims.
Donate Your Clothes for a Good Cause: Cleaning out your closets? Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC is collecting gently used business casual wear for Women in Transition’s Chic Boutique, a free clothing store exclusively for women in WIT programs who are applying for jobs to re-enter the workforce. Women in Transition is a displaced homemaker program run by Wayne Counseling and Family Services, funded through a grant from the state Department of Children and Families Division on Women. Its goal is to serve women who have lost support due to domestic violence, divorce, widowhood, or disability. New or gently worn women’s business attire and accessories will be accepted through October 21 at Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC’s Hackensack office.
Walk For Victims & Survivors of Domestic Abuse: Join the Center for Hope and Safety on Saturday, October 15, for the Bergen County domestic violence agency’s first annual Walk Together Against Domestic Violence. The 3K walk takes place in Van Saun Park, with registration and fundraising proceeds going towards programs that provide domestic violence victims in the local community with emotional, psychological and practical support. Weinberger Law Group is sponsoring a special team of domestic abuse survivors taking part in the walk. Will we see you there? Visit the Center for Hope and Safety’s walk page to register.
Look For Our Purple Vigil Candles & Win A Book! All month long, our Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC offices will display lit purple candles in our windows as a way to symbolically stand vigil and light the way for victims of domestic abuse as they reach out for help. Next to our candle window display, look for our Domestic Violence Awareness Month sign. Snap a photo of it and upload it to social media, tagging Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC and using the hashtag #enddvinnj. At the end of the month, we will choose one of the photo entrants to win one of our Family Law Jersey Style series of divorce and family law guides, including our A Guide for Domestic Violence Victims in New Jersey, to be released in paperback this month. (A copy of our poster can be found at the bottom of this blog.)
