Tina Islam, Esq. is a family law attorney with Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC. Ms. Islam is highly skilled in representing clients in all aspects of family and matrimonial law including divorce, custody, parenting time, grandparent/third party visitation, alimony, child support, division of assets, domestic violence, DCP&P matters, modification and enforcement of family court orders, post-divorce issues, and all other related family matters.
Ms. Islam is drawn to the practice of family law because it allows her to directly help people navigating through what are often the most difficult and sensitive times of their lives. Recognizing that every family law matter is unique, Ms. Islam provides each of her clients with creative and compassionate legal representation that truly prioritize her clients’ individual needs and goals.
Over the course of her esteemed career, Ms. Islam has built a well-regarded reputation for guiding her clients and protecting their interests in complex, highly contested divorce and family matters, as well as helping clients resolve their matters through low conflict methods, including mediation. Ms. Islam is a zealous advocate for her clients and will always guide them in ways that protect their economic and personal rights, including their rights to their children.
Prior to joining Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, Ms. Islam practiced as a family and criminal/municipal law attorney. Throughout the years, Ms. Islam has represented family law clients in all facets of family law, but has the added perspective and experience of also representing numerous clients in criminal and municipal court matters, with charges including child endangerment, aggravated/simple assault, sexual assault, weapons offenses, drug charges, DUI, and other criminal and municipal law related issues.
Through this well-rounded family law background, Ms. Islam understands that clients’ family law issues may also involve other areas of the law, such as criminal charges or immigration consequences. Ms. Islam’s extensive knowledge in different areas of law and how these can impact her clients’ family case allow her to effectively counsel and protect her client’s interests whenever these situations arise.
Ms. Islam received her Juris Doctorate from the Hofstra University School of Law. During law school, Ms. Islam was selected to be a member of the Youth Advocacy Clinic, where she represented juvenile clients in obtaining status in Immigration Court in Manhattan, New York as well as in abuse/neglect proceedings in Nassau County Family Court in New York. During her clinic experience, Ms. Islam represented clients from South American countries who lived traumatizing childhoods involving rape, violence, and abuse/neglect in their home countries. Her sensitive approach to these issues and her ability to connect to her clients on a deeper and personal level, allowed her clients to feel comfortable and at ease as she assisted them in establishing status in the United States.
After graduation from law school, Ms. Islam served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nancy L. Ridgway, P.J.F.P., Atlantic County, Family Part. Throughout her clerkship, Ms. Islam continued to refine her skills and knowledge in family law, gaining valuable insight into how judges analyze cases, weigh evidence, and make decisions related to all aspects of divorce and family law cases. This experience also gave Ms. Islam a “behind the scenes” knowledge of the how the family court system operates as well as family court procedures, which helps her clients feel at ease when they attend their own court proceedings with her standing by their side.
Ms. Islam’s passion for family law attorney was further ignited when she had an opportunity to intern at the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (“DCP&P”) in Passaic County, New Jersey. During this experience, Ms. Islam immediately understood the tremendous meaning, importance, value and purpose of family law matters serve in people’s lives and the lives of their families.
Ms. Islam is fluent in Bengali. During her free time, Ms. Islam enjoys taking long walks with her dog Mila, an American Eskimo. She also enjoys riding her Peloton bike, reading thought-provoking novels, and skiing during the winter months.
Ms. Islam is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and New York.
