Megan Hodes – Divorce & Family Law Attorney

Megan Hodes Divorce Lawyer

Office: Hackensack, Bergen County

Megan Hodes, Esq. is a family law attorney at Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group. Ms. Hodes’ practice is exclusively focused on family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, asset division, adoptions, domestic violence, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, child welfare (DCPP cases), post-judgment enforcement motions, and all other related family law matters.

Respecting the sensitive nature of her clients’ legal concerns, Ms. Hodes guides her clients with compassion, dignity, and highly skilled legal care. She prioritizes connecting with her clients on a deeply personal level by helping them feel greater peace of mind during what is often an incredibly stressful time in their lives.

Ms. Hodes has built a well-regarded reputation for successfully resolving highly contested divorce and family matters, from the initial filing through to conclusion, by tailoring her approach to strategically address her clients’ legal needs and goals. Whether a matter can be settled out of court or requires court litigation to successfully resolve, Ms. Hodes is fully prepared to protect her clients through zealous advocacy and out-of-the-box solutions.

Throughout the entire legal process, Ms. Hodes ensures that her clients are educated and informed of their rights and options in order to make an informed decision about the best course of action. When her clients’ matters involve child-related issues, Ms. Hodes acts to quickly protect her clients’ children, prioritizing their welfare and safeguarding them with the same care she would give as if they were her own family member.

A unique benefit for her clients is Ms. Hodes’ previous experience as a Matrimonial Paralegal. Applying her paralegal skills to her clients’ matters, Ms. Hodes is highly efficient at drafting concise and comprehensive motions so that her clients’ issues can be handled in the swiftest and most effective manner possible. With her clients’ families and futures on the line, Ms. Hodes is always prepared to seamlessly ensure that her clients are protected.

Ms. Hodes completed a clerkship for the Honorable Teresa Kondrup Coyle, Superior Court Judge of Monmouth County. During her clerkship, Megan assisted Judge Kondrup Coyle with her Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCPP), previously known as the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) and assisted in the preparation of the Judge’s post-judgment Orders and written decisions. This experience helped shape her skill and mastery in drafting motions and provided her the experience of learning how to juggle multiple matters at once.

While in law school, Ms. Hodes interned for Volunteer Lawyers for Justice/Newark Re-Entry Legal Services (VLJ/ReLeSe) where she utilized her knowledge of family law to prepare court filings for previously incarcerated individuals and to assist in the coordination and management of Pro Se (also known as self-represented) Family Motion clinics. After helping recently incarcerated people get their family matters in order, Ms. Hodes knew she was meant to be a family law attorney.

Ms. Hodes received the Pro Bono Justice Award for Extraordinary Service for her work at VLJ/ReLeSe, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the New York County District Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey. Ms. Hodes’ passion for public service and helping people resulted in her receiving a Public Interest Law Center Fellowship for two consecutive years.

Throughout her law school experience, Ms. Hodes purposely obtained internships and externships that would yield as much courtroom experience as possible. As former President of the Boston University American Parliamentary Debate Association and participant of several moot court competitions in law school, Ms. Hodes has devoted her life to being able to effectively advocate for her clients, which she believes is of the utmost importance when handling sensitive and emotional family law matters.

In 2013, Ms. Hodes was recognized as a Next Generation Leader by the National Association of the American Constitution Society, which demonstrates Ms. Hodes’ natural born leadership and deep commitment to protecting people’s rights.

Ms. Hodes earned her Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law (now known as the Elisabeth School of Law at Pace University). Additionally, she holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice, a diploma in Paralegal Studies from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Boston University.

Prior to joining Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, Ms. Hodes worked in private practice in Monmouth County before returning to Bergen County. Megan is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey and the District of New Jersey. Ms. Hodes is a member of the Family Law Section and Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Bergen County Bar Association, and Barry Croland Inns of Court.
Ms. Hodes was born and raised in Bergen County where she continues to reside today. As a Bergen County resident she is more knowledgeable about the area, the school districts and Bergen County culture, all of which come into play during a litigated matter.
