CBS 2: Growing Trend of Baby Boomers Divorcing After Many Years Of Marriage

In a growing trend, more and more baby boomers are divorcing after years of marriage. As CBS 2 New York reports, the spike in the number of so-called “gray divorces” is backed up by some very stark statistics. Since 1990, the divorce rate has doubled to 1 in 4 in couples where both partners are over 50. And after age 40, it’s often the wife who wants the the divorce.

Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group, LLC’s founding partner and attorney Bari Weinberger, one of the divorce experts interviewed by CBS 2 News, offers her take on why gray divorce is becoming more common: “People are no longer willing to compromise, to live an unhappy life for the sake of a marriage.” As she further explains, longevity is a key factor. “We are living longer. Spending five or six decades with the same person is becoming more difficult.”
