This document allows you to have a say in your medical treatment when you are not capable of expressing it to your health care professional.
While a living will spells out the specific treatments you do and do not want, it does not address unforeseen events. It is for this reason that you should have a health care directive because if something arises that is not addressed in your living will; the designated person can make the necessary decisions for you.
